Nice to Know......Bayer is now making crystal aspirin to dissolve under the tongue. They work much faster than the tablets.
Why keep aspirin by your bedside?? A possible night time heart attack...that's why.
There are other symptoms of a heart attack besides the pain in and down the left arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating, however these symptoms may also occur less frequently. Women need to be especially aware because their symptoms can be much different. My sister had severe
pain in the back lower portion of her neck. Upon a trip tp the ER it was discovered she was having a heart attack. She had one coronary artery with 100% blockage and another with 65% blockage. The MD in the ER made a correct diagnosis and saved her life.
Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack. The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.
If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water if possible.
Afterwards: Tell someone near you, phone a neighbor or a family member who lives near by and say "Heart Attack!" Say you have taken two aspirins...take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival.
Do Not Lie Down....

Here are a number of simple things you can do to improve you overall health. I recommend you check with a physician before implementing any of the following .
- EAT NUTS.. Walnuts are the best. They contain "good fat".
- RED WINE..Drink a glass or two of wine a day is good in preventing cardio-vascular adverse events such as heart attack and stroke. It may also help lower rates of cancer and hip fractures and improve overall health.
- FISH OIL..It may not sound sexy, but fish oil contains Omega-3 trans fatty acids, a crucial anti inflammatory that reduces the risk of heart attack and other problems related to heart and blood vessel disease. Salmon and Tuna are the best sources of Omega-3's. A supplement however, may be the best way to get uncontaminated fish oil.
- TOMATO SAUCE..Tomatoes contain Lycopene. Lycopene is great for the heart.
- ASPIRIN..A baby aspirin, 81 milligrams, a day has been show to reduce heart disease by 28%. Since you can buy 120 pills for under $5.00 it doesn't get much attention. There are no big profits involved for any drug company is why.
- EAT BREAKFAST..Starting the day with a healthy breakfast is a great way to energize your body.
- DRINK COFFEE..Coffee has been show to reduce the frequency of Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimers. As long as your body does not have any adverse reactions to coffee, drinking it is a good thing to do.
- TAKE VITAMINS..Taking a good multi-vitamin will help you get everything you need in case your diet is not providing it.
- CALCIUM..Over 50 million men and women over the age of 50 will suffer from decreased bone mass. Calcium is needed to help prevent that loss. Also remember that Vitamin D is needed to help Calcium do its job. We can get Vitamin in D from the sun, therefore in the winter you should take Vitamin D to make up for the loss of sunlight. Do not take Iron at the same time of day you take your Calcium and Vitamin D. It inhibits their absorption into the bloodstream.
- DRINK WATER..As much as 3 quarts of water are needed to rehydrate the body each day.
- EXERCISE..Walk, Walk, Walk. This is about the best exercise you can get. Most jobs used to consist of some exercise. That is not the case now-a-days. You can get a lot of walking in on a daily basis if you just park a bit farther away while doing your errands and walk instead of parking as close as you can get.
- CUT SUGARS AND STARCHES..These turn into fat and can increase the frequency of diabetes, heart disease and many other problems.
- GET YOUR WEIGHT UNDER CONTROL..It does not take long to put on 50 lbs. 5 lbs a year and you are there in a short 10 years. This increases the risk of heart attack and diabetes especially along with circulation and joint problems. Don't let this happen to you. You know what to do to correct it, so just come up with the courage and get it done before it is to late. Less junk food and more exercise is a good start.
It is very difficult to do everything we are supposed to do and I guess I could go on forever with tips for good health. The ones listed above are very inexpensive and can truly extend your life and cut your need for expensive drugs, doctors visits and hospitalization later on. Enjoy every day and I wish you a long, healthy and happy life.
